Artist's Comments
I made this during in my rotation in Fashion at Uni. (Which was sooo much fun.) We had to make a piece of wearable art. I made this in the space of 3 evenings.
The whole idea came from decollage (check the link if ya don't know what decollage is) [link] I looked at the artist Jacques Villegle. The corset is made entirely from random bits I found at home. Bits of old clothing, and packaging for the layers on top. And for the base layer which has the detailed embroidery on I used some bed sheets Mom was gonna throw away. And for the boning i used different thicknesses of electrical wire. The only thing that wasn't reused, was the lining which was some cotton from India! Took me forever to punch the holes for the grommets because of all the layers of fabric! I cut my hands up pretty bad. I managed to finish this bout 1am the day it was supposed to be finished for. I will post pictures of the detailed embroidery before adding all the other layers...I just gota find 'em in the masses of photos that clutter my folders! But I still can't believe that I can actually wear it! |
